Ant Control with Nematodes

Ant nests in lawns and borders can be a real problem. Some success in controlling ants has been obtained by using the nematodes Steinernema feltiae. As with other nematode based controls you simply water these nematodes directly into the ant nest using a watering can. The product arrives as a powder and, ideally, should be used as soon as it arrives; however, it will keep for up to 2 weeks in a fridge (please note that the control should be used in one go once the pack is opened).

As the ant nematodes are a cure rather than a preventative measure, you should not apply the nematodes until ants are present and the soil is at a temperature of 10°C. You can apply the nematodes normally between mid March and September (as long as the soil temp is 10°C).

As with other nematode treatments this control is safe for children, pets and wildlife and it is safe to use the lawn directly after use, and is totally safe to use near food crops. Simply repeat as often as is needed to keep the area free of ants - it is impossible to overdose.

Each pack will treat up to 6 large ants nests. For persistent ant infestations - to keep ants at bay, simply re-apply the ant nematodes at 4 week intervals.
