Pheromone Lures & Attractants

Buzz Organics® environmentally friendly and species specific insect lures are made from natural, high quality materials. Our insect lure products are incorporated within one of several types of dispensers. Generally, unopened insect lures encapsulated in rubber septa should be stored in air-tight bags and refrigerated; for longer storage life of up to 2 years, they can be stored in a freezer. Always read the labels.

How does it work? The sex pheromones of Lepidoptera (and other pests) have been used successfully for monitoring or control of pest moth species for many years now. In general, female moths remain in one place and produce relatively large quantities of pheromone. Male moths detect this pheromone at very low concentrations, and from quite long distances using their antennae. They then follow the concentration gradient until they reach its source, the female. Placing false sources of pheromone to distract males and prevent them mating has been one successful tactic used in control; using lures with traps will reduce the pest population.
